Planning a wedding is thrilling, but let’s be honest - it can also feel like a marathon! One of the most important (and fun!) parts of the process is finding your dream wedding dress. At The White Closet, we get asked all the time: When exactly should I start shopping?

While there’s no single "perfect" date, having a solid timeline will save you stress and ensure your gown is ready for your walk down the aisle. Think of us as your personal bridal calendar coordinators!

Phase 1: The Fun Begins (9-12+ Months Before)

This is the sweet spot for kicking off your search. Why so early?

Exploration is Key: You want time to browse Pinterest, look through magazines, and understand what styles truly resonate with you.
Appointment Availability: Popular bridal boutiques book up, especially on weekends! Starting early means you get your preferred appointment time.
No Pressure: Shopping without a looming deadline makes the experience joyful and relaxed - exactly what it should be!

Our Suggestion: Start making those appointments and trying on dresses 9 to 12 months out from your wedding date. Bring your closest supporters and prepare for a magical experience!

Phase 2: Say "Yes" and Place Your Order (6-9 Months Before)

Once you’ve found the one (cue the happy tears!), it's time to make it official. The period between saying "Yes to the Dress" and actually receiving your gown is the longest part of the process, and this is where timing is crucial.

We suggest you order your dress 6-9 months prior to your wedding to ensure you have enough time for shipping and alterations.

Why this window?

Manufacturing Time: Wedding gowns are often custom-made to order, which takes time - sometimes up to six months, depending on the designer and complexity.
Shipping: Once complete, the gown still needs time to ship to our boutique.
Safety Buffer: Building in a buffer ensures that if there are any unexpected delays, you're not scrambling.

If you need a dress sooner than this timeline allows, please contact us and we’ll do our best to help you! We have options like rush orders (for an additional fee) or purchasing sample gowns that can often be taken home right away.

Phase 3: Alterations (2-3 Months Before)

Your dress has arrived! Now comes the critical step of ensuring it fits you perfectly. We recommend scheduling your first fitting about 2-3 months before the wedding.

You’ll typically have three fittings:

First Fitting: The most significant adjustments are made - things like hemming and adjusting the bust and waist. Bring the shoes and undergarments you plan to wear on your wedding day!
Second Fitting: You'll try on the dress to check the initial adjustments. Minor tweaks are made here, if they are needed."
Final Fitting (Pick-up): Usually a week or two before the wedding. This is where you confirm everything is perfect and learn how to bustle your gown. You take your dream dress home!

Ready to find the gown that will define your big day? We can’t wait to help you begin this journey!
